Our Annual Dinner and Awards presentation. Come meet your Board and other fellow members for a night of post Holiday Cheer and a Toast to the New Season in front of us all.
Welcome to the SCGA Balboa Team Play 2025 season. These matches are INVITATION ONLY events!
Our first match is set for Jan 11th. Our local group of 4 teams is set, with the same clubs as last year. Balboa Men’s Club has a team that competes in an annual league run by the SCGA with over 100 other clubs in Southern California. The format is Team Match Play, and all matches are played on Saturday. Each club fields a team of 16 players and plays a head-to-head match against another club in our group. There is a 6-week regular season where we play a home and away match against each club in our group. The winner of the group advances to the playoffs against all the other SCGA group winners in a knockout elimination bracket. Our team has a very storied history and has been decorating the lounge with hardware for many many years.
I’m Gregg Aubrey, the Captain of the team going on seven years. I handle everything from finances to the weekly roster and beyond. All questions or concerns should be directed at me. Please be aware that Balboa has two teams so please don’t get confused with this team and our Senior SCGA Team. Senior Team Play is played during the week and has a much longer season and not connected to this team.
To be eligible to play for this team you must be an active member of Balboa Park Men’s Club in 2024 and a renewed member going forward in 2025. You must be 21 years of age. You must have played in 3 Balboa Club events in 2024. Posted at least 10 total rounds in 2024 and have an established SCGA index below 18.4. If you enjoy match play and are interested in competing for your club, let me know. Please keep in mind, I usually have a player pool of 30-40 players, and we only start 16 players per match so by signing up for the team you are not guaranteed to play.
This tournament will follow a standard individual stroke play format. Participants will be grouped into flights, with both gross and net winners determined for each flight.

You count your 2 best scores on the par 5's and par 3's, plus your 5 best scores on the par 4's, giving you a really good 9 hole event score. Net double bogey max, as we will be posting your 18 hole score too.
